Ten scopes. Tight logistics. High-end finishes.

eSTEM called for ten separate scopes, including framing, fireproofing, rough carpentry, plaster, acoustical plaster, insulation, drywall, firestopping, and joint sealants, on a site with tight logistics and high-end finish expectations.

Split across conventional subcontractors, that many scopes would have stacked coordination risk exactly where the finishes were most demanding.

The building also had to open with the academic term. A STEM campus does not get a second window, so every scope had to land against a date that could not move.

How Caston Built It

The approach that kept the date

  • Ten scopes, one contract

Metal stud framing, fireproofing, rough carpentry, lath and plaster, insulation, scaffolding, acoustical plaster, drywall, fire protection specialties, and firestopping all ran through Caston.

  • Sequenced around the site

Tight logistics were planned into the schedule, with deliveries, access, and staging coordinated by the same team doing the work.

  • Finishes held to a high bar

Acoustical plaster and high-end finish work were executed by career plaster and taping crews.

  • Own access

Caston scaffolding supported the multi-discipline sequence without waiting on outside vendors.

  • Built to the academic calendar

Sequencing, inspections, and turnover were planned backward from the first day of term so the building was ready when the students were.
